About Chapter One Bookshop
Chapter One specialises in providing books for children and teachers.
We stock a wide range of books both fiction and non-fiction to support the curriculum, and have one of the best ranges of teaching resource books available.
The shop is run by John and Mary Baker who are always pleased to give advice and recommendations.
Our book boxes for KS2 result from requests made by teachers, and have been put together by Diana Bentley, a literacy specialist, and Jane Whitwell, a special needs advisor.
The book boxes contain 16 books carefully graded and levelled for each year group. These fast-paced, zany stories have lots of child appeal.
Our titles for guided reading come with free guided reading notes covering comprehension, speaking and listening, and are ideal for assessment.
After 18 years in Wokingham, we moved in 2007 to larger premises and are now based in Woodley, near Reading in Berkshire.
Chapter One are pleased to have won the "Inaugural Peter Jones Award for Entrepreneurship in Bookselling", for their book boxes concept.
In commenting on the award, Peter Jones said he was impressed with the Chapter One team adding that, "I can see with the right packaging, marketing and distribution the concept could very easily be scaled up to a national level and be sold to individuals as well as schools. Teachers already love it and I believe parents will too".
As well as winning the award, Chapter One were presented with a cheque for £10,000 which will be used for enhancing and developing the service in line with Peter Jones' ideas.
